Split of the Lennard-Jones pair interaction potential into two distinct interactions, namely, excluded volume interaction and cohesion interaction, is discussed. The proposed choice of excluded volume interaction in Lennard-Jones fluid is justified by the results obtained from computer simulation studies of the vapor-liquid coexistence in excluded volume system as well as by the results for van der Waals cohesion interaction parameter.
