We consider a simple microscopic, continuous (off-lattice) model of a ternary amphiphilic system. An effective Landau--Ginsburg--Wilson hamiltonian of the Teubner--Strey form is derived using a version of the collective variables method. Mean-field phase diagram is calculated and structural properties of the homogeneous phase are discussed.
