We would like to give an introductory lecture to the geometric approach of physics offered by the introduction of connections. These mathematical objects give a prescription for the comparison of vectors in geometry and they are ubiquitous in the gauge description of interactions in physics.

They offer an incredible freedom for the physicist! We will try to elaborate on historical perspectives and to give a personal overview of this rich concept.
